b) Why Do We Sometimes Lose A Stroke? A player with a very good shot suddenly loses it, and it becomes his nightmare. Why does this happen and what can we do to get the stroke back? Why Do We Sometimes Lose A Stroke?
-------------------------------- This week I share two Q/A's... Q1: I have been playing tennis for many years, and I have the skills but I have this problem of two personalities it seems. One day I can play so well, missing nothing and the next day I can't get five balls over the net in a row. What could the reason for that be? I never know who will show up that day. The good player or the inconsistent one. A1: The possible reasons for differences in your play (personality) can be: 1. Just natural biorhythm - we cannot perform 100% at all times. That's the law of nature, I guess. 2. Optimum sports performance also fluctuates. Actually peak sports perfomance in tennis is possible maybe only 3 to 4 times per year. 3. Your emotional and physical state determnine your peak performance - mental and physical of course. If you are stressed, have lots on your mind, have had a big "fight" with your close ones, have been working for many hours, etc. - you also cannot expect your best tennis. 4. It can also be something in the match that triggers your "good" or "not so good" tennis player inside. Could be the person you are playing or where in the tournament are you (1st round, final, ...) or just some event in the match that triggered your state. (bad line call or something like that) I remember Andre Agassi saying in one interview - what made him nr. 1 - and he said: the experience and ability to still play solid tennis on my bad days. Before I would lose in the first round, because I expected my self to play 100% every time. With years of experience and Brad Gilbert's help, I realized and learned how to get to at least QF or SF in my not so good weeks. That way I accumulated many more points and eventually became nr. 1.
Q2: Which is the best food meal to eat before a match? (3 or 4 hours aprox.)
A2: That's a very interesting question.... Yes, eat at least 3-4 hours before a match. What you need is carbohydrates - so most playes like pasta (Spaghetti) or rice of some sort. Make sure that there is only fat free meat like fish or crabs, but no pork or beaf. Even better choice would be vegetarian pasta or rice. Also don't eat full. You know the feeling when you are totally full and you would just like to sleep. Don't do that. ;) Complement that light meal with salad. You can have a quick snack like a banana or a wheat bar 1 hour before the match. And gets lots of fluid - water in your body. Best to start hydrating yourself one day before.
