How Pros Watch The Ball And What You Can Learn From That June 20, 2008 |
| Hi, The French Open was again very one-sided on the men's side, where Nadal had no problems dealing with Djokovic and Federer. I was hoping Roger could do more... Ana Ivanovic on the other hand finally pushed through tough mental battles with Jankovic and Safina and earned her first Grand Slam title. -------------------------------- There are two new articles on TennisMindGame.com this week and both have been written by Damien Lafont, Ph.D. and certified coach from France. Damien has been studying the effects of the "gaze" of top professional players where they freeze their head at the point of contact and don't follow the ball immediately with their eyes. a) The first article gives you some comparisons between Federer, Nadal, Clement and Hewitt and what are the differences in the way they watch the ball. Watch The Ball? - How Elite Tennis Players Focus On The Contact Point
b) In the second article Damien explains the reasons why it's so important to keep your head still at the moment of impact and not follow the ball: Six Reasons to Keep Your Eye Off the Ball
-------------------------------- Jim sent me this question: "I watched the FO fairly regularly, & my mind returned to the same question, "Where's Justine?" I've been a BIG fan of hers, and couldn't believe it when she simply retired from professional tennis. This must be a "mind" issue, rather than something physical. Do you, as a "mind-game guru", have any thoughts? If Y, why not share them with your subscribers?" So as usual, I've decided to share my thoughts on the tennis thoughts blog: 4 Reasons Why Justine Henin Ended Her Career --------------------------- I am going back to Thailand next week for some coaching and a short holiday! If any of my Thai friends is reading this newsletter, give me call... The next newsletter goes out on the 5th of July regardless of my holidays. ;) Best, Tomaz
