Who Had a Tougher Job Winning 14 Grand Slams - Sampras Or Federer?
July 06, 2009
Hi,

Roger Federer broke another record with his 15th Grand Slam win at Wimbledon. I felt sorry for Andy Roddick because he played a great match and would really deserve at least one Wimbledon title on his shelf.

But that's how it is in professional tennis...

I've been blogging about Wimbledon the whole two weeks and have prepared an interesting analysis for you... So let's start with the blog posts...

a) One interesting argument that keeps coming up on various blogs and forums is that Roger Federer had an easier job of getting to 14 Grand Slam wins than Sampras. It's impossible to get a reasonable discussion going on if there are no facts so I went out to get some.

So how do we measure the quality of the competition at the time Sampras played and at the time Federer plays?

The post has also been posted on Digg so if you have a digg account, I'd appreciate it if you give it a vote. Thanks!

2. What's new?
--------------------------------

There were a few very interesting questions on the main site which I answered and I invite you to share your views too.

One player is wondering how to play opponents that he hates. I think the key is also to find out why he hates them...

Ernesto shared his fears of losing with weaker players. I'd approach this from 2 angles; who is really weaker and why it's normal to lose to lower ranked players...

Ashley is having some problems with her backhand and Nick and Julian have already shared some very good tips. Wanna share yours?

---------------------------

The last month has been all about Roger Federer so it would be nice to see some other players like Roddick, Djokovic, Murray and even Nadal come back to the spotlight and make the men's tennis a little bit more interesting.

By the way, congrats to Serena for her 11th Grand Slam. She is definitely the one to watch for if she is serious about her game. The US summer hard court season is here so hopefully there will be some exciting matches to watch.

Talk to you in two weeks!

Best, Tomaz
