How To Get In Control Of A Tennis Match And What Can You Learn From Interviews With Pros September 05, 2009 |
| Hi, The US Open has been going on for a week now and while there have been some surprising losses on the women's side (Ivanovic, Jankovic, ...), the men seeds keep winning and the top 16 seeds have ALL reached at least the third round. This means that the "big names" of tennis will soon start clashing with each other and I am really looking forward to what happens. By the way, all the top 16 seeds haven't reached at least the third round in a Grand Slam in over 40 years... -------------------------------- a) There are two different ways of looking at control in tennis: one is total control - where we don't have control of the outcome (where the ball will land, who wins the point or the match, etc.) but we have control of our chosen tactic and our effort. The second is sense of control where we might feel that we are in control of the match or not. It is this sense of control that strongly affects your confidence in the match. When you have that sense of control, everything works well. But what if you lose that sense of control? Getting Back In Control Of A Tennis Match b) Nancy is asking for help when playing doubles and dealing with lobbers. Nick has already shared some great advice so head over to that post and see what you can learn and if you can add a tip or two too!
-------------------------------- The interviews with professional tennis players can reveal a great deal about the mental game of tennis if you take the time and really dig deeper into their answers. I've started a new series of posts on the Tennis Thoughts blog called Interview Insights where I dig into the Q&A and share my thoughts on what the players meant and how you may apply these insights to your game. The first interview is from Roger Federer after winning the Cincinatti title and the second one from Ana Ivanovic after she lost in the first round of the US Open. Interview Insights – Roger Federer at Cincinatti Masters 2009 Interview Insights – Ana Ivanovic at US Open 2009 Please share your thoughts on the blog and also let me know if you like the "Interview Insights" series and if you'd like to see more of them!
--------------------------------- I'll be releasing a new DVD on tennis tactics in Slovenia soon so you may receive an email in Slovenian language in the near future. ;) If you're not from Slovenia please ignore it and wait for the next newsletter issue. I will soon start on the English version of the DVD and will definitely release it in 2009! Talk to you in 2 weeks! Best, Tomaz
