Can I Be A Champion At 28

by Ali
(Tehran / Iran)

I am 28 years old and I want to know if I can become a tennis champion if I start playing at this age?

Comment by Tomaz:

Ali,

If you are asking whether you can become a champion (say top 100 in the world), then a simple answer is no.

At 28 many tennis players are actually finishing their career. Most of them have been playing for 20 years.

This means training tennis for a few hours almost EVERY day playing thousands of matches in this time period of 20 years.

You cannot catch up.

But if you are asking me whether you can become a champion in Tehran or in your local community, then you have to check the best players in your area and see how good they are.

If you have good athletic abilites you can start playing solid tennis in about 2 years if you play almost every day and have good technical foundation.

The Journey
by: Tomaz

Omair,

Becoming a champion is not really just up to you.

You coach needs to guide you and choose the right level of competition so that you win some and lose some matches.

At 15 you should be trying to play some ITF tournaments under 16 and then go from there.

In a few years you would play ITF under 18 and possibly some Futures matches, which are the lowest ATP type of tournaments.

Age What is that???
by: Michael

Hi Ali,

I totally agree with what Tomaz has writen to you. That is the common stand point and verifyable picture in the world.

But is it the ultimate truth. What is the greatest obstacle on this path, if you truly want to become a World Class Tennis Player.

Do you learn slower that a young person??
By no means. Look how long an infant takes to walk or use a washroom or even to use cutlery.

Do you have advantages to learning? Sure you have. You have important life experiences a teenager has not even come in contact with.

Mind game and Tactics should come to you as easy.

But here come the big ones. Family , Work and the key your body.

6 to 8 hours a day. Can you train your body to return to his youthfullness and highly uncorrupted state? So your body can cope with the tremendous effort you will have to put in??

There is much to say and explain. Maybe you like to join The Miracle Quest and one day we will meet on the court. Smiling at eachother knowing we made an impossible dream reality... OUR REALITY.

Take a look what i just started at http://themiraclequest.bravejournal.com/

It will take Hope and Faith and very very hard commited work and Know How, for you to attain such a goal.

Good luck with your game
