Changing Strategy for Different Court Surfaces

by Judi
(Connecticut)

Our indoor club just changed the courts from very fast hard court to Decoturf. I have always had a fast swing and a "power" game for a woman (4.0 singles), and find myself losing matches on the new surface. I can't seem to find a rhythm and am making a lot of unforced errors.

I don't seem to be seeing the ball as well any longer and wonder if it is possible that the color (bright blue court with green surround as opposed to all green surface) may be a contributing factor.

Playing on this surface at a much slower pace has gotten into my mind, and I find myself thinking much too much during matches. I have been playing for over 30 years on hard surfaces and love a fast-paced game. Now, I find that I am not getting points on aces or deep shots to the corners as my opponents have more time to get to the ball.

In short, my question is: do I need to change my racket (a Prince O3 red, power 1100), my strings, my strategy, or all 3 to adjust to this much slower surface.

I have been working with a club pro, but he is advocating my staying with a big forehand and aggressive play. It's not working for me -- at least, not yet.
