Counter shots

by Angus
(Purley)

People at my club keep beating me with counter shots as they know its my weakness. I want a way to overcome these shots.

Can you give me some tips please? I need them desperately because I've got a match tomorrow.

Use your strengths
by: Tomaz

Hi Angus,

You didn't mention which weaknesses you have that your opponents exploit so I can answer only very general.

First, don't become too focused on this pattern. Everyone will try and and eventually will exploit your weaknesses. Don't worry about that too much.

Exploit their weaknesses and then see who is better at it.

Agassi exploited Sampras' weaker backhand but he still lost many times. Why? Because that didn't give him enough points to win the match.

On the other hand, focus on your strengths, find opponent's weaknesses and then try to use your strengths against their weaknesses.

And if you dictate the game by playing aggressively, your opponents won't have the the luxury of thinking about your weaknesses because they'll be in trouble most of the time.
