Dreams too Big?

by Ace

I'm a 17 year old girl, and I've been playing tennis for a little more than 3 years now... and I've loved every minute of it. I play as often as I can, I workout, I try to eat right, etc. etc., you know the drill.

What I really want to do is go pro. I know that may be a crazy thing to say, but that's really what I want. Am I in way over my head here?

And... if I'm not in over my head, what is the best way for me to go about turning pro? Do I go for the challenger league, college tennis, or something else?

It's Worth all the "Little Victories"
by: Julian

This is -in my view- a question you should ask a tennis professional with experience in the business. I'd suggest you write to Tomaz directly in this regard (use the "contact me" form on the menu) I'd also suggest you put together a video of one of your practices so potential coaches can see your current form.

Now as for my take on what should happen in order for you to go pro. I'm sure you understand that without seeing you it's impossible to determine anything... I haven't so I can't tell... But assuming that you had great natural talent you would still have to start competing and winning at high level. Challenger league and College tennis are both great routes.

A lot of people will probably tell you 17 is too late... But it all really comes down to what you can do right now with your game. If you are pro material your results will start to show and will be noticed. Succeeding at a college stage alone would be a great accomplishment in itself... Besides, how will you know how much you can accomplish if you don't continue on your journey? All the "little" victories take you there. Remember the ancient proverb? : "The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step"

So I'd say SURE... always keep the big picture in mind while focusing on your next immediate step. If you don't keep the eye on the ball how can you expect to even get it over the net right? ;-)

Best of Luck to You! Let us know how it's going.
