Forehand consistency

by Jake
(Andalusia, AL, USA)

I'm 16 and have been playing tennis for about two years.

I have been somewhat successful in the fact that I'm number 1 on my tennis team, yet I find when I am playing a lower level player that doesn't put pace on the ball, or if someone miss-hits a ball to my forehand side that I can't create enough power on what seems like soon be an easy put away.

Slow balls are not easy
by: Tomaz

Hey Jake,

When you receive a slow ball, DO NOT underestimate it. Just hitting ball with the racquet is demanding for your brain let alone hit it hard in the corner.

While Federer can hit a winner from a slow ball on the baseline we are not that gifted.

Most of us must use that slow ball to open up the court or play it deep instead of hitting a winner.

So don't go for too much on slow balls, just hit a good shot and wait for a really short ball before you can put it away...
