How to hit deeper shots

by Victor

I play my friend but I have lost about 7 sets straight. I know that my problem is that I hit shots that are too easy for him to get.

I have noticed that when I give him a ball right on the baseline it is hard for him to return it. The problem is I can't hit deep enough shots, most of them land right in the middle. If I try to hit harder it just goes out.

Another solution is to hit from side to side. I am not too good at this.

If I try to hit a controlled shot, it usually goes to the middle. When I hit to the corners, it goes out.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? I NEED TO HIT DEEPER SHOTS AND LEARN HOW TO HIT MORE ACCURATE SHOTS.

Topspin is the answer
by: Eitan Abraham

You must try to hit the ball with topspin and the ball should be between 70cm to even 1m above the net when it goes over it.

The reasons are these. The topspin creates a higher air pressure on top of the ball which pushes it down. This will help you not to overshoot. Making sure that you hit well above the net will give you the range so that the ball does not land in the middle. Plus the combination of topspin and a ball coming down with a good vertical speed component, will result in a kick up when the ball bounces. All this will put your opponent in a defensive position.

A fine tuning between the two factors will be conducive to achieving your objective. Concentrate on this to start with and never give up if it does not work immediately.

5 feets over
by: InDaFlow

Do the drill to consistenly hit the ball 4 or 5 feet over the net and beyond the service line. You can add more pace or top spin later on.
And keep practicing.
