How to return a topspin forehand?

I'm playing a guy who is 2 years older then me and much more experienced...

The first part of our match he hit a forehand with a ton of topspin right at me... and I couldn't figure out how to hit it back.

He beat me in the first set and then we were stopped. We are going to finish our match in a few days...

What should I do with that topspin forehand now that I know he uses it?

The topspin forehand is one of the most difficult shots to return, especially if it's hit with a lot of force.

One reason to use a lot of topspin is it allows you to keep the ball in court. Topspin makes the ball curve downward and sometimes will cause the ball to bounce low or skid.

The best way to return a topspin forhand is to get under the ball. Don't try to just hit the ball flat or straight from the waist. Get under the ball and return the ball with your own topspin. This will allow you to get the ball up and over the net and also keep the ball in bounds.

slice

Though returning a heavy topspin ball with topspin keeps one in the rally, it conforms to the way that your oponent is playing. Instead I would suggest on the backhand side to use a nice attacking slice straight back on to his forehand the slice is such an effective shot that it will cause a low bounce and therefore your oponent will be forced to play a sort of sweeping shot that is to say he will have to lift the ball. This will reduce the amount of power he is able to give the ball and it is also a chance for you to attack the net, by attacking the net you obtain complete control over the rally and hopefully this tactic will throw him off.
