I can't beat my friend

by Marko
(Belgrade, Serbia)

I have a great forehand and passing shot. When I play with my friend and attack with a great shot he just returns a ball because he is very fast and after a few shots I make a error and lose a point.

What should I do!!!

P.S. How to improve my serve!!! Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!

Be patient
by: Tomaz

Marko,

You're playing the so-called "pusher" which can really be very difficult to beat at the junior stage.

You need to be patient, work him around and wait for the right ball to attack.

Remember, there is no time limit and you won't get an extra point if you win in 5 seconds. ;)

Your opponent is not trying to hurt you so you are in no danger. Play smart and use your forehand to make your opponent run.

If you are putting him under pressure and he has to defend, then in the long term you will sooner get a short ball than him.

Just be disciplined and attack with fast shots ONLY really short balls. Otherwise make him move around the court as long as it takes.

Nice photo... but who's in it? Who's "The beater", "the beaten" the "cute girl"? Give us the dirt! ;-)

Hi Marko,

Ditto the very good Tomaz advise... Be patient, take your time exchanging shots and try to move your friend around until you create a good opportunity! You might then change the pace with your powerful forehand to put more pressure and/or finish the point... (you'll see that you may not even have to use your super shot!)

I think I have some good serving tips... but first I have to know which one is you in the picture! (is your friend in it too?) Are you the tall guy, the scrawny guy, the squatting guy, the shy guy (who almost didn't make it inside the picture) or the fresh guy with the arm around the cute girl!! Which one ? And your friend?

P.S (Only then I'll know the serving tips that will fit your game best)

;-)

alot to try...
by: Freddie

1 - Lobs and moonballs.
2 - Extreme topsin shots.
3 - Drop shots.

I put them in order of increasing difficulty (my personal opininon).
