I can't hit backhand slice

by shivansh

Backhand slice

Backhand slice

Recently I played aitta talent series tournament. My opponent was an experienced guy and he always hit me a topspin at my backhand that I was not able to return well.

I can't hit the backhand slice correctly. Any ideas?

Well, the obvious response is "take a lesson", but is that the only option? What about a crosscourt drive? What about down the line? Running around your backhand may even be an option. Don't be afraid to mix it up and give your opponent different looks.

How to hit backhand slice
by: Nick

Joe makes a good point, but your question was [how] to hit a backhand slice.

Learning it can be tricky, if you already play a one-handed backhand it's much easier. If you don't I suggest you try to learn/gain muscle memory on how to hit one-handed* (*since you are used to 2-hands this will take longer to learn, but the results are worth it).

[Guidelines for how to hit slice]:

Use a grip where the racket face in naturally flat or open (to make up for downward swing).

At contact point the racket face should be flat, period. I play with many people who end up hitting the frame since they contact the ball at a very open face.

Rise over run, you are hitting down and/or left to right and [through] the ball.

To make more back-spin hit more high to low, for more side-spin hit more left to right* (*for a righty, right to left for lefty).

-Hope this helps, Nick
