Learning The Sidespin Serve

by Joshua

I only recently subscribed, after finding this page following on from typing in 'left-handed tennis players'.

I was looking for one of the players on tour who i saw in an event leading up to the Australian open, but then found this page.

I myself, am a left-hander, and yes, i do agree that we have a slight edge.

Anyways, i am struggling with a sidespin serve, so that i can push it out wide to my opponent's backhand, serving from the left side of the court.

I know you have to brush around the ball, but can't seem to get the action right.

Please help!

(Although, a few of the articles are about how to play against left-handers... makes it seem like you're not so keen to help us lefties...=P)

Topspin for Sideserves!
by: Sergio

Try to hit from an 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock direction(opposite for left handers) this will enable the ball to have both a "side" and
"top" spin ensuring clearance and consistency. At the same time this will allow for wide serves to happen. Just think to yourself "diagonal up" when serving.
