Pressure at the net and weak mentality @.@

by Juno
(Texas)

I was playing a match in a high school level tournament against someone that I believed that I could beat. But, next thing you know, I lost 3-6, 1-6.

I know it wasn't because I underestimated him but it was because he would come up to the net. In addition, many of his points were because I couldn't keep my focus on the ball.

And everytime, I tried to lob, it would either go straight to him, or go out (it was windy that day).

Is it because I'm just weak mentally or because I need to work on my strokes? And if it is because mental weakness, how can I train myself to be stronger?

Focus on passing shot areas
by: Tomaz

The most probable reason why you missed your passing shots is because you were too aware of your opponent at the net.

It's natural to automatically focus on (big and small) moving objects and that's what a player at the net is to you.

But when that is in your mind, that's where you'll play.

The key is then to focus on areas beside him where you want your passing shot to go.

No need to watch the player at the net since they'll be in the middle of your possible shots.
