problem with one handed backhand

by Anshul
(India)

I have been playing tennis for six months now. When I started playing, then only I found I have better feel of one handed backhand than the two handed one.

So I watched some coaching videos on the backhand and practiced it quite a lot, and slowly after around two to three months, my backhand was going according to my expectations.

But of late, I have again started missing many backhands. I have tried to find the problem and I think it is that sometimes my racquet face just opens up while hitting low balls and on higher balls, my racquet hits the ball from high to low instead of low to high.

I tried to solve the problem by moving into position more quickly and being very focussed, but I don't think that I have been able to implement it.

So I would greatly appreciate your views on this problem.

Change up your grip
by: Anonymous

Hey,

As above, just change your grip a little. I was watching one of Coach Kyril's videos (really recommend them by the way) but anyhow, to the point, i found that though I was messing up my backhand all the time, once I switched to a grip that was towards the Eastern Backhand and a little more spread out, it helped a lot! just make sure your grip is solid and your fingers are spread out - this gives you a bit more control and you can do whatever you want with your shot.

Grab your racquet as if you were hitting a lefty-forehand, use the same grip as your forehand only that with your other hand, and use you right hand in this case, as a guide only. to me te real power should come from your left hand in this case and the other hand just to help you in your motion. Try hitting some forehands just with your left hand until you get a hold of the motion and get some power into it
