Returning and Staying In The Rally

I recently played a doubles tournament with my mate and I was made to look like a donkey compared with a grand stallion.

I am as good as my partner, but he just seems to up his game when it comes to competitions. He could return really difficult balls that I struggled with.

He seemed the better player and I got annoyed with myself that I could not perform as well as him, although I can do. As a small, 13 year old kid, I found it difficult to return big hitters' serves back and keeping in the rally.

Every time it went to my partner he seemed to cope with it brilliantly.

How can I learn to up my game in tournaments?

Time for a lesson
by: Dennis

If you have confidence in your game in general...you may just have aquired a bad habit that your are not aware of. On your return...your swing may be a little long...you may not be stepping towards the ball...you may be dropping your raquet head...whatever. It's time to take a lesson and have a pro look at your swings and work with his advice. A few dollars spent could make you a more formidable player.

Tried moving?
by: Joe

When I'm having a tough time with my returns, one of the first things I try is to adjust where I'm standing while my opponent is serving. Often times when facing a "big" server, taking a step back will give me just the extra time that I need to make a good return.
