Serving tips
Rhythm, toss and balance...

I recently received a question with video attachment from YouTube. Here is the question:

Q:
The only thing I can see that I need is more knee bend, but I'm sure thats not it, also, any feedback on the video of me just hitting around would be great.

A:

Hi,

Not bad at all. :)

The most important thing to first work on is your balance after the serve BUT that is the CONSEQUENCE of your toss.

You toss the ball too much into the court and therefore you need to chase the ball and lose some balance. The return can come back fairly quickly so you need to be ready and balanced for the next shot.

Try this: serve and then land on your left leg as you do now, but try to hold balance for 2 seconds on that leg, before you "add" your right leg.

Also try to connect with the ball at a slightly higher contact point - this will come naturally if you don't toss the ball so much in front.

And one more thing - your ryhthm is very fast. Check top ATP players how they have faster-slower-faster rhythm. Or see a baseball pitcher who takes the swing (faster), then slows down a little, and then accelerates forward.

You can practice on this for a while and send me a video again.

Are you interested in more tennis instruction?

Video is becoming more and more popular on the internet. Broadband internet is available and affordable in most countries so tennis video clips can be viewed almost anywhere.

Although TennisMindGame.com is primarily oriented towards making your mind your best ally - becoming better in the mental and strategic part of tennis, I am considering adding tennis instruction to the site.

So what do you think? Please fill in the survey below...
