Sleeping chops

by Mahesh
(India)

I have big tap & slice serves but my opponent is taping the ball with undercut (slice) deep in my court.

He then comes in on the volley so I can't pass him on these sleeping chops and I lose.

Any ideas?

Trade Slice for Slice
by: Michael

Hi,

as you already know that they will come behind to the volley and attacking you with a deep slice.

Your bester countey is a not too powerful slice if you go direct on him.

A slices power is tough to judge on the net to volley it. So you are actually setting him up to pass him on the second shot. So constantly practise what volley you get out of the opponent with your different shot selection, so you focus better on making your second shot the passing shot. I clearly favor slice against slice to get a poor volley and pass him than.

Improve your serve, mix it more, serve to his forehand. If he once sliced it deep to you, you can only lob or pass him. You need to move very well for that shot, and bend your knees! You don't need to kill the first passing shot, try to make it bounce right behind the net, and if his volley is not good enough, you get a second chance to pass or lob him.
Or maybe he's just playing better than you, and there's nothing you can do but fight!
