Tennis is a Duel

by Dave Kayll
(Mumbles)

As soon as I realized that tennis is a duel, my game took on a whole new meaning.

So did practice and the whole experience became a much more enjoyable event. I began to look for MY weapons and stopped worrying about whoever I was to play!

This mental approach gave me the edge to not only improve my game but my results too.

How many of us have avoided certain opponents because they have the edge?

They're the ones you should be targeting to play next. Just start off slowly and find your best stroke and make it a weapon.

Then whenever that opportunity arises, "baammm!" - use it, simple. Count up the number of times that weapon was successful and try and beat that amount next time.

This will give you a goal that will take your mind off the duel and the counting process will keep your thoughts on the NOW as opposed to worrying about the past and the future!

This has helped up my intensity when I practice and what I practice but also it has meant that I now have become a threat to play and have created a monster as I now have to have three weapons as opponents are aware and AFRAID of the other two I enjoy and look forward to playing.

I call them "My little Army".
Good Luck Everyone

Very interesting approach to the game!
In my dissertation for getting licensed as a coach I used a similar way to explain te interaction of playing a point. It certainly give you purpose for improving your game!
Practice with purpose, so you can play with a gameplan based on your strenghts and the weaknesses of your opponent.
Thanks for your insight Dave.
