How worldclass tennis technique video analysis helps you coach young kids
I would like to thank Simon Grieve, LTA Performance Coach for this article.

Introduction: Simon Grieve demonstrates, that even a comparison between Andy Roddick's forehand and young kids technique can help them improve it, although they are much weaker and not even close to that level. Video analysis software allows you to pinpoint the fundamentals of great shots and work on them with your players. Here's what Simon says: It is extremly motivational to see improvement. These clips show how Ben has improved over time and also they highlight areas that he can continue to work on. In my opinion video analysis can significantly speed up the learning process. This video clip highlights how Ben's forehand differs from Andy Roddick's. Obviously Roddick is far stronger than Ben, nevertheless, there are many key fundamentals that Ben could learn from Roddick's forehand and add to his game. This series of video presentations will highlight some of those key fundamentals and show how Ben and myself went about improving his forehand.

The second video analysis shows how important is the use of the whole body (especially in the modern tennis) and how to practice this with a medicine ball. Here's what Simon says about this: Here is an effective drill that can help players of all ages understand how their whole body can be used in a tennis stroke. The weight of the ball can vary, in this video clip Ben and myself use a light football, however, as his technique improved we progressed onto a 1kg ball. As the weight of the ball increases it is important to use the whole body, in particular the legs. If the player uses only his back or arms, injuries may occur. Make sure the technique is correct first!

Simon has one more video about Ben's progression and I invite to check his website for a full video analysis.
