The Nadal drill

by Rasmus Kaarre
(Vaasa, Finland)

This drill can be played with 2 or 3 players.

On one side of the net there's "Nadal"; he's going too be the one who's going to run and cover the court.

On the other side there's 1-2 players that are going too play only the ball cross court all the time to "Nadal".

These players have to concentrate so they can hit good shots cross on every shot. "Nadal" is going too play the first shot cross and the next shot down the line.

On the backhand side Nadal plays everything forehand so he's going too have to move fast from the forehand side so he can cover his backhand side with his forehand.

This drill is one of my favorite drills and if "Nadal" in this drill gets alot of shots back to his side it's going to be very pysically demanding.

Good for running, not so good for tactics
by: Tomaz

This drill could work for a while if you want to practice hitting on the run and staying for a long time in the point.

But if "Nadal" is supposed to play down the line all the time and his opponent cross court, then "Nadal" is not defending correctly.

He would need to play cross court to neutralize the attacks.

Your right that hitting only down the line isn't so good but if you read the text about the drill you'll se that "Nadal" plays every other shot cross.=)
