Tips to deliver decent second serves

by Guru
(Phoenix)

Hi,I have started playing tennis for about 2-3 months now.

My first serves are not consistent, however when I do get them they are pretty fast.

My real problem is with my second serve. It's too lame and high.

I try to toss the ball slowly into the box.

A "Kick" or "Top Spin" Serve should be on your "things to do" list...

Guru:

Don't "try to toss the ball slowly into the box..." you have to use your racket! that's why it's so "high and lame" like you said! (Ok, that was just kidding around...) ;-)

But seriously, I'd highly recommend understanding and developing a "kick" or "top spin" serve for your second serve. It will provide you with safety (to avoid double faulting) Also with a difficult high bounce (hence the name "kick") that it's hard to hit/return and with enough practice you can hit this serve with lots of pace too...

Here's a great TennisMindGame video about top spin tennis serve that explains everything you need to know about it.
