which serve to use as the first serve

I have a flat first serve that is really hard and makes a lot of points and aces, but I tried one time using a kick serve as a first serve and it's also really good.

Which one should I use?

There is no right or wrong answer for which serve to use as your first serve, and can vary considerably.

The first serve that you want to strive for when playing is one that you can make a good percentage of the time (around 60%+) and most importantly hurts your opponent.

That serve may be a flat, slice, topspin, topspin-slice or a kick.

The placement may be down the T, out wide, or into the body.

The main advantage that you have on your first serve is that you can take some chances on it (as long as you have a solid second serve) by swinging flatter or trying to hit a smaller target.

I might as well touch upon the second serve.
The most important part of the second serve is getting it in (around 90%). After that you can add more spin to it in order to keep a high percentage but have a serve that neutralizes or even hurts your opponent more.

The best goal for the serve is to be able to give yourself as many options as possible, variety is key.
