Windy tennis

How does one adjust to playing tennis in the wind?

When you switch from one side to another in a match, my rhythm of serving goes off and so do many other things, like my footwork and stroke execution. Please help!

I also feel I need to get stronger, but im 14, so no weights, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks

How to play in the wind.
by: Ed

Playing in the wind is tough, but a great exercise in making adjustments. First, you must use quick small steps near the ball. This allows you to position more accurately and keeps your feet a little closer together in case you need to make an additional adjustment at the last second.

That being said, the art of playing in the wind is to not be obsessive about "perfect" positioning.
If the wind is generally blowing the ball into your body on one side, create a little more spacing between you and the ball. On the other side it would be blowing away from your body so attempt to narrow the spacing between you and the ball a bit.

Just try to be in "close enough" position and learn to adjust your torso position and swing to create your shot. If you are in reasonable position, you can put a little heat on the ball.
If you are a little to far out of position, focus on a relatively safe shot back and try to regroup for the next ball.

You will also need to shorten up your strokes and service toss a bit to. As your "wind timing" improves, you can return to more of a full stroke.

Over time your positioning will improve and these adjustments will become much easier and the wind less of a problem.

Dont miss tennis due to wind... it could help you be a better player.
